To blog or not to blog....

.....that is the question.

Looking back over the last few months, it seems I have mainly blogged about other people. This is all fine and dandy because I do like to support my friends on line and it's easy when they have lovely stuff to promote! There is also the psychological shove in the back. I do it because I promised I would. I can't seem to do that for myself, though.

I recently read (in yet another e-book I purchased to help me get off my arse and do something) that, if I'm only going to blog half-heartedly, then I shouldn't do it at all. Oh dear.....

I am asking all seventy three of you lovely people to give me a hint here. Should I carry on? And what, if anything, should I write about? Do you want to read little amusing snippets of my life? Shall I attempt some in depth philosophy? Would you like me to feature some more lovely things I find out in cyberspace? How about some work in progress shots (that I always forget to take) of my jewellery? Tutorials? Not that I know much.

If you have any input for me, just leave a comment below. If there are no comments, then I shall take that as a "no"!

Here is the obligatory photograph:

I made this - no, I threw this together for a recent craft fair at which I sold next to nothing. It's a bit boring. It's a charm on a chain. I have decided to embellish it a little.

So, there will be at least one more post. I shall try to remember to take pictures of my efforts as I go along! There, I've just said I'll do it so it must be done! Perhaps I should do this more often!

  1. I wonder the same thing all the time Tina. Does anyone even read blogs anymore? So many people rely on FB and Google+ to connect anymore and I feel like blogs are going by the wayside but I could be very wrong. That's why I keep trying to write but it's hit and miss most of the time.

    1. Thanks, Diane! I actually enjoy the writing bit sometimes but, as you say, it's hit and miss. Perhaps I should stop worrying about it and just do it!

  2. I like reading blogs, but to be honest don't search them out as often as I can.
What I like reading about is more of the background of people. And yes, with the photo's included :-)
Meanderings, philosophy, what is the meaning of life and such is all good.
Frankly, reading about ones jewelry is boring. Everybody does that..
More about the people behind the worker, and what they think of life is good for me, and what they are busy with is cool as well, as long as it's cool stuf :-)

  3. Tina, my dear, you write your little heart out all you want and I will be happy to read it. I have kept a journal since I was eleven, but that does not mean I write every day. I would rather read something you want to say than to slog through something written half-heartedly b/c it was time to write a blog.

    Make your own rules.

Buddah says that it is none of your business what anybody things of you.

I write for me. If it makes it to my blog, then great. I don't even know if anyone reads it, but I like to know that what I wrote is there should it be of use to anyone. If I have nothing to share, then nada is fine with me.

    1. Is that you, mjj? I love the Buddha quote! Thank you for the feedback. I think I might just carry on but not obsess about doing it "properly".

  4. I'm kind of in the same place as Diane; I've been putting more effort into facebook lately, and really enjoying it. I like that people comment on my facebook posts and there is more interaction. I can post photos or if I have a funny thought, I can put it there. I do feel that I have to put more thought and time into the blog. I still enjoy that though, because sometimes I have more to say, not that I've done much of that lately!

I think you should write whatever is bubbling up in you at the moment. If it's interesting to you, then it will be to others as well.

    1. Thanks, Bobbi! Unfortunately, things "bubble up" at the most inopportune moments - like the middle of the night or when I'm out somewhere else! I shall have to try to remember to write them down!

  5. I use my blog as the go-to site for my facebook, twitter, Google Plus and even my own website to some degree. I get an incredible amount of traffic going to my blog from google (people typing in keywords).

I can also edit in (as well as edit out) any on-line store for any listing on my blog (can't do that on facebook or twitter). Thus, I don't direct people to my Etsy shop which I may or may not drop at some point (for instance); I direct them to my blog where it tells people all of the venues where they can purchase an item.

I get hits on very old posts and they still end up in my on-line stores.

I like the idea of "my life as a jewellery maker" kind of blog. People, places and things that inspire you, photos of your recent work, why you are drawn to jewellery, great supply finds, how you got your training, other jewellery artists that get your creative juices flowing, etc.

  6. Hi Tina, Yes keep blogging... but what interests me least is when you write about others.... I am interested in you, your craft, how you do things, photos of you working, and yes your daily life. Keep blogging!! xo

    1. Hi Jen! As it seems people do actually read it, I think I shall carry on in my usual sporadic fashion.

  7. just keep doing what you enjoy....

i dont read blogs often either unless i see a link with a comment on fb or pinterest etc...
But i have a tumblr, twitter, fb account and wonder do people even read their feeds? or just collect followers and post a lot themselves so everyone ends up with 2,000 follwers... who dont even read what they post. but as they dont read the things that people who they follow post either then it levels out. you just have to keep doing what you love and hope the odd post might reach the right people.

    1. Thanks, Petra. I have often wondered how much of anything posted on line actually gets read. It is lovely to receive all these comments. I love hitting the "reply" button!

  8. Tina, all those things you asked if you should write about is what I like reading about. Your daily life, the things you make, the things others make and, once in a while, the why of it all. I haven't written anything on my blog since we finished the rental house but every once in a while I think "I should blog about this." when I've done something I think is interesting. One of these days I'll get back into it but until then I'd like to keep reading your blog. Even if I don't always comment. ;-}

    1. Cheers, Becky! It is nice to know that the blog is read. I get those "I should blog about this" moments quite a lot and then I don't follow through. Well, if all this feedback is anything to go by, I must attempt to follow through more often.
